Period cramps are common, but the intensity can vary from mild discomfort to pain that interrupts work, school or sleep. Ayurveda traditionally uses food, warmth, rest and individualized herbal routines during the menstrual cycle.
Use warmth
A heating pad or warm compress on the lower abdomen can be comforting. Warm showers and gentle movement may also help some people feel less tense.
Keep meals simple
Regular meals, enough fluids and foods that are easy for you to digest can be helpful when appetite or digestion changes during a period. There is no single “Ayurvedic period diet” that everyone needs to follow.
Try gentle movement
Walking, stretching or light yoga may feel good if you are comfortable exercising. On days when pain or fatigue is stronger, rest may be more appropriate.
Be careful with herbal products
Akshira Ayurveda Hemshira Herbal Uterine Syrup is an Ayurvedic proprietary formulation marketed for women’s wellness. Before using it, check the full ingredient list, directions and warnings on the label. If you take prescription medicine, are pregnant, are breastfeeding or have a medical condition, ask a qualified healthcare professional before using herbal supplements.
Know when cramps need evaluation
Severe menstrual pain is not something you have to simply tolerate. Speak with a clinician if pain is new, getting worse, causing fainting or vomiting, occurring between periods, or accompanied by very heavy bleeding. Conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and adenomyosis can cause significant pain and need proper evaluation.
Note: Lifestyle ideas can support comfort, but they are not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment when symptoms are severe.
